Putting Creativity to Good Use
One of the principals of IPRS has several years of experience working with technologies to assist persons with various physical disabilities including vision, hearing and mobility impairments. Past experience included working with Braille Research & Literacy Inc. to host a workshop on developing a standardized braille language so that computer translation could be achieved for automated Braille production. Two current programs are outlined below.
Resource Database Development
In cooperation with the Disabilities Task Force of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church, we developed a web-based resource list, a database and a bibliography of resource materials. The web-based resource list includes private, state and Federal resources as well as vendors and will be easy to use. Hosting arrangements have been made and an extensive list of resources, materials and web-links have been compiled. Funds are needed to maintain the web pages, distribute materials and cover support services.

Equipment Grants and Training
We are seeking funds to provide equipment to under-employed blind professionals who cannot afford computer systems and software that will enable them to continue in their profession. Often hardware is donated when donors upgrade their own systems but the blind individual cannot use the equipment without installation of new operating systems and specialized software and training on those new applications. IPRS through managing a volunteer network seeks to solve this problem at least in New England. Currently we have received several computers but funding is needed to acquire the necessary software and accessories.
